CATHERINE GOULBOURNE 1834 – 1899
EDWARD GOULBOURNE 1840 – 1914
Edward Goulbourne was born about 1840, he was the son of John and Jane Goulbourne. His father was a gardener from Shropshire, Jane was from the Ruthin area. In 1851 the family were living in Erlas with his elder brother Ellis, also a gardener.
In 1861 the Wrexham Flower show was held on the racecourse and among the exhibitors was “Edward Goulbourne who was the gardener for Thomas Painter Esq, of Bodondeb” Thomas Painter was the Mayor of Wrexham in 1860 and his home was on Grosvenor Road.
On 27 December 1865 Edward married Catherine Humphreys at St Giles, she was the daughter of William Humphreys, a shoe maker and had been born in the Selattyn area. At the time of their marriage she was living in Chester Street,
He continued to exhibit in the local flower shows for many years.
His father John Goulbourne died in 1863 and the couple moved with Jane to Coopers Cottage in Acton. Jane died in 1875.
They later moved to Hullah Lane and from there to Edge Street in Wrexham where Catherine died on 21 August 1899 aged 65. Edward stayed at Edge Street and was there in 1911, he was still a gardener, the couple had no children.
Edward died on 7 November 1914 at 5 Roberts Court, Beast market and was buried with Catherine.
Edward Goulbourne 1863 – 1946
Also buried in the same grave are Edward Golbourne and his wife Mary Elizabeth Goulbourne.
Edward was born about 1863 in Rhosnesni, Wrexham, his parents were Ellis Goulbourne a gardener and Sarah Moses who had married in 1859. Ellis and Edward who was born 1840 were brothers.
By the time he was 19 Edward Goulbourne had joined the army. He was a Militia Man at the “23rd Brigade Depot” Hightown. Wrexham.
In 1888 he married Mary Elizabeth Kendrick at St Giles. Mary was the daughter of William Kendrick a coalminer from Brymbo and Eliza from Gwersyllt.
By 1891 they were living in Acton and Edward was a gardener which seemed to run in the family, but by 1911 he had given it up and was a general labourer living in Bryn Estyn Cottages, Rhosnesni, they had 6 known children. A few years later Mary Elizabeth died just before Christmas, she was buried on 26 December 1914 aged 54. Edward lived until he was 84 and died in Clwyd Wen, Whitegate, he was buried with Mary and his Uncle Edward on 30 October 1946.
