Elizabeth and Edward PATE

Elizabeth was born in the Oldcastle area of Malpas about 1849, she was the daughter of  Thomas and Margaret Price.

In 1851 the Price family were living in Dog Lane Farm in Oldcastle, her father was an agricultural labourer from Aldersley, her mother was from Chester.  Elizabeth was the youngest child of 4 at home.  There were Ann 12, Thomas 8, Frances 5 and Elizabeth 1.  By 1871 only Elizabeth and her father Thomas were still at the farm.

Elizabeth married Edward Pate early in 1877. Edward had been born in Tallarn Green about 1854, he was the son of Thomas Pate and Mary Roberts.   In 1861 his grandmother Sarah Roberts was with them, she was aged 82. His father wasn`t there,  but his siblings Thomas 3 and Sarah  3 months old were at home. He was still with his mother in Tallarn Green in 1871.

After their marriage the couple stayed at the farm with Thomas Price and by 1881 had 2 children, Thomas 3 and Mary aged 1. By 1891 they had moved to Wrexham, and were living on The Walks, by then they had children Thomas 16, Henry 11, Alfred 8, Charles 7 and Mary Ann who was 1.

In 1901 only Charles was still at home with his parents, Edward was working on a farm, and they were living in 5 Abenbury Road.  They moved again to 29 Princess street, Newtown by 1911 and Edward was now working as a gravedigger, probably at the same cemetery where  he is buried, his home was just a couple of streets away. Elizabeth died there in March 1915.

Edward died 23rd December 1929 and was buried with Elizabeth.
