“In loving memory of my dear husband Frederick S. Grainger R.N. of Norman Road, (late of Stourbridge), who died at Larbert Hospital, Scotland, Jan 14th 1919, aged 36 years”
Frederick Simon Grainger
was born on the 27th September 1882 in Stamber Mill, Stourbridge,
Worcestershire, the child of Edwin & Eliza Grainger. In 1912, at
Stourbridge, he married Henrietta Bird.
On the 25th January 1917 he was enlisted into the Royal Navy, as serial number K/33910, a 1st Class Stoker on H.M.S Vivid 11. At this time he was reported to be 5’7’’tall, with brown hair, grey eyes and a fresh complexion. His civilian occupation had been an ironmongers’ assistant.
On the 14th January 1919 he died at the Larbert Hospital, Scotland. Sources say alternatively that he died from Addison’s disease, or from pneumonia. He was buried at the Wrexham Cemetery on the 18th January 1919.
