John ROBERTS 1861-1904

JOHN ROBERTS was born in Leeswood, he was a coalminer and late in 1881 he married Emma Martha Dew who had been born in Caergwrle and was the daughter of John Dew and Sarah Roberts. Her father was a policeman from Denbigh but the family also lived in Leeswood.   They remained in Leeswood before moving to Wrexham. In August 1897 their baby daughter Myfanwy died aged just 6 weeks old. She was buried in a shared grave with 12 others who had died between July and October that same year. Of these 9 were young children and the   others had died in the workhouse or the infirmary.

Another of their children, Robert (Bobby) died in the fever hospital in January 1898, he was only 4. Just about 2 weeks later Emma Martha died at home aged 36 in Vernon Street and was buried with her son.

By 1901 John is with wife Loruhamah who has been difficult to trace. Sadly John died in February 1904 at Browns Cottages, Rhosddu and was buried with his first wife and daughter.  Loruhamah was also known as Laura, she never remarried and died in Vernon Street in 1971 aged 73.
